isolation chest
Cable Chest Fly
chest · shoulders
cable · beginner
How to do it
- 1Set both pulleys at about chest height, take a handle in each hand and step forward into a stagger.
- 2Bring your hands together in front of your chest, then let them open under control.
What to think about
- A small bend in the elbows, held the whole way. Straightening them makes it a shoulder movement.
- Step far enough forward that there is tension before you start, not after.
What usually goes wrong
- Pressing rather than hugging. If the elbows are bending and straightening, the triceps have taken it over.
Worth knowing
- Lighter than a press, always. The load sits on the shoulder at full stretch rather than on the chest, and this is not the movement to find your limit on.

What the cautions rest on
The safety points above come from these, not from house opinion.
- Strength and muscle gain require progressively increasing demand over time.
- Weight training carries a low injury rate compared with most field and contact sports.
- Holding your breath through a heavy rep raises blood pressure sharply, which matters most for people carrying cardiovascular risk.
Who checked this
Nobody qualified has. These are standard coaching points and ordinary gym safety, written down: how to set the thing up, what to control, and when to stop a set. They are not a clinical opinion and no physiotherapist or strength coach has read them back. If they disagree with somebody who can actually see you lift, believe that person.
